Women’s Accessories of the 50’s & 60’s

Women’s accessories (sunglasses, scarves, jewelry, necklaces, belts, ear rings, hair pins, etc.) of the 50’s and 60’s

Women love their accessories. This was no different during the 50s and 60s time period. Your accessories can make or break any type of outfit. Below are a list of must have accessories for any 50s or 60s outfit.

Cateye Sunglasses

Most people are familiar with the 50s fashion that included cateye glasses. Some don’t realize that these cute frames also come in sunglasses. Cateye frames fit around the eyes and then toward the tips go up and to a point. They were a relatively short trend that came out during the 50s.

Wayfarer Sunglasses

The Wayfarer sunglasses were a hit during the 50s and 60s. They came out in 1952 and had so much success that most felt they would be a continual trend that would last quite a long time. But With the change in fashion that the 70s brought, wayfarers were soon lost and put on the shelf to make way for bolder fashions.

Most remember these sunglasses in the Audrey Hepburn’s movie, Breakfast at Tiffiny’s, where they were immortalized.

Fashionable jewelry changed quite a bit between the early fifties and late sixties. During the fifties Victorian jewelry and pearls were in style. During the sixties movement the modern style was more influential. This included large pendants, multi stranded necklaces, and beads.

Chiffon scarves are a nice added touch to any outfit. Both younger girls and more mature women wore these. These scarves are so light that they were perfect for outside or inside wear.

Cinch Belt

Cinch belts are very cute belts that usually buckle or clasp in the front. They are great with skirts or even a cute pair of pencil pants or shorts. They are the perfect belts to wear with a 50s or 60s outfit. Cinch belts usually come in black but if you are more daring there are other colors you can find them in too. I personally prefer Cinch belts with a cute full poodle skirt.

Bobby Socks

Many people don’t worry too much about socks when they are dressing up in 50s or 60s outfits but really it’s an important finishing touch, especially if you are going to a sock hop.

Bobby socks are cute socks that usually fold over and have a bit of lace at the ends. You can find some with designs or just plain white with lace. Designs can be great if they match the colors of your outfit. They look great with oxford shoes as well.

  3. [...] The Red Hat Society often gets mistaken for a sorority. The RHS is actually not a sorority, because it does not include initiations. The society is not considered a voluntary service club either, but rather an organization for women. [...]
