There are many great 50’s outfits and 50’s costume choices and ideas out there. The 1950’s offered a wide arrange of styles and cool trends that we can look to for ideas. These trends include ideas on what clothes, hairstyles, shoes, accessories, and makeup to wear.

Clothing – Clothing styles were classified in to different types. Preppy styles were poodle skirts, button-blouses, and cardigans for girls. Guys wore button down polo’s, blazers, letterman’s jackets, and loose fitted slacks.

The Greasers were also a popular style during the fifties. Greaser guys wore white t-shirts, tight rolled up jeans, and leather jackets. They took their inspiration from the Hollywood legend James Dean.

However, some of these traditions now go by different names. Soda fountain parties are now the same as hanging out at a fast food joint with friends; ice cream socials occur on a daily basis at places like Dairy Queen. And sock hops are now just dances.

Some more basic traditions that draw generations together are things like food, music and dancing. In fact, these are some of the strongest binding factors between generations. These specific factors are also the main ingredients of 50’s sock hops.

Children Dressing Up In 50’s Styles

Monday, April 19th, 2010

Dressing up in the 50’s costume style can be really fun for children, mainly little girls.  There were so many styles in the 50’s that make their costumes fun and have variety.  When wondering what did people wear in the 50’s, just think of the popular movie Grease.

Some people might think that there are not many opportunities to wear these fun filled costumes, but there are several.  Older and younger children can wear them at the all-famous Halloween, themed birthday parties, and themed school dances.  Younger children can also wear them year round for dress up or play tea parties.

No matter what style of the 50’s costume is worn, they must have a lot of accessories.  Any 50’s costume style has several accessories to it.  From hats to shoes and everything in between, the 50’s styles loved their accessories.

Dressing Up With a Tea Party

Thursday, April 15th, 2010

Dressing up in children poodle skirts is a fun activity for any young girl. One fun opportunity for girls to dress up in fancy clothes and children poodle skirts is through a tea party. Even though there will not be actual “tea” served at the young table, having a sip tea party can be a lot of fun for a group of young girls.

Hosting a tea party can be beneficial for parents as well. Children will be able to practice good table manners during the tea party, and you can even teach them party etiquette such as sending out thank you notes after the party is over. Parents can also sit back and visit with other parents while the younger girls enjoy their party.

When planning a tea party the table is the main focus. Find a pretty tablecloth that fits with the theme of the party. Soft pastel colors work great.

A fun way to invite guests to the tea party is by cutting out teapot shapes and attaching a label in the shape of a tea bag. You can use ribbon or yarn to attach the tea bag label to the teapot cutout. Write the guests name on the tea bag cut out, and put any particulars on the teapot.

Tuesday, April 13th, 2010

Mothers Day is a special time for a young daughter to show her mother how much she loves her and appreciates her. There are plenty of fun activities to choose from to share with your daughter. Below are only a few ideas and suggestions for children (or dads) who are trying to think of fun activities to do on Mothers Day.

1. Make breakfast together. You may need the help of Dad on this one if there aren’t older children around. Let mom take a break and bring her breakfast in bed before she even wakes up.

2. Have a tea party together. Mother and daughter can both wear poodle skirts to dress it up more. Hip Hop offers a variety of children poodle skirts and adult poodle skirts to chose from so you can find one to fit your style.
