Meals to Serve at Sock Hop Parties This Summer

Wednesday, March 17th, 2010

Serving the right food will help kick off your sock hop the right way. Although people can be decked out in 50’s poodle skirts and the music might be great, food helps keep it fun for guests. There are a lot of different options available for you to choose from so you can have the ultimate 50s meal.

One idea is to do meals like those served in a soda shop. Serve a hamburger or hot dog with a basket of fries or onion rings. You can even top it off with an old fashioned soda.

For dessert shakes and malts are a fun idea. Use a few blenders and make the shakes up yourself. Root beer floats are another easy idea.

Serve ice cream sundaes with the shakes if you would like. Sundaes are delicious and are easy to make. All you have to do is put out toppings and dish out ice cream. Guests can top their sundaes themselves so they get toppings they like.

Decorating Tips for a Summer Sock Hop

Tuesday, March 16th, 2010

Having the perfect decorations for your sock hop this summer can transform an average party in to a really great one. Poodle skirts and 50’s costumes make the party fun, as does great food. Party decorations, however, are the first thing your guests will see when they come so it is important to have good decorations.

One idea is to put a jukebox in the corner. Jukeboxes can usually be rented through party supply stores for a small fee. If you cannot find one, there are many blow-up jukeboxes or a paper jukebox you can find through party retailers online.

Create a balloon arch in your party’s theme color. Using a PVC pipe in the shape of an arch, tie balloons filled with helium with wire. You can dangle decorations from the center of the arch for an added touch. Place the arch in front of the entrance.

Use cars for decorations. Find real or constructed 1950’s cars to bring in the 50’s theme of the sock hop. A great car was the 57′ Chevy. Ask around to see if anyone would be willing to loan their relic cars for the sock hop dance.

Ideas For Costumes to Wear to a Sock Hop

Saturday, March 13th, 2010

Sock hops became famous in the 1950s when the lively music and dance moves caused dancers to remove their shoes so they would not ruin the dance floors. Sock hops can be a great summer activity. If you are either hosting or invited to a sock hop showing up in a great 50’s costume is essential.

Start your search by looking for items you already own. Look through your closet, or better yet your parents closet. I have found some pretty amazing finds for 50’s costumes by raiding my grandmother’s clothes she kept from her college days.

Looking For Fun Summer Dance Themes? Do a Sock Hop Dance!

Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010

The 1950’s represent a fun era. The dancing style is one that is looked back on with a favor. The clothes they wore back then, whether it was jeans or a 50’s poodle skirt, showed the fun that these dancers and musicians enjoyed during the 50’s era.

This year experience a 1950’s theme with your dances. A sock hop theme is a great theme leading in to the summer. A sock hop allows all the dancers to get to know the songs and dance styles of the 50’s era.

To get the feel of the era make sure the dressers dress the part. Wear fun 50’s costumes, such as poodle skirts and rolled up jeans. Depending on the dance and music you decide to use, other 50’s costumes can be used as well.

Sock hops work great for school dances or church events. With the many styles involved students would not necessarily need to bring a date to the dance, which can be nice for some students. Groups of friends can have just as much fun as much fun.
