What was once a regularity in the fast-food world has now become a rarity: rollerskating waitresses. However, chains such as Sonic Drive-in and Ruby’s Diner are bringing the tradition back. You can now go to a burger joint and feel like you have stepped back into the 60’s.
Rollerskates aren’t used to get the food to the customer faster. They are used to entertain them. Customers are getting more than a meal; they are also getting a show.
This idea isn’t new for Sonic. In the 60’s and 70’s rollerskating carhops were a natural site at one of these fast food

An essential part of summer car shows in the music. Whether it’s a playlist of oldies, or simply songs about cars, music is a must. Here is a list of some great songs to include in your car hop playlist.
1. El Camino by Ween is a great one to have on your playlist. This song is done in with a little flamenco flavor. If the subject matter and genre of this song weren’t enough to make it great, Ween also makes reference to other great cars such as the Tornado and the Cordoba.
2. Radar Love by Golden Earring is another one to include. This song talks about driving fast on the open road late at night. It’s a classic that most everyone can relate to.

Every Halloween, fifties costumes for girls or guys always seems to be a popular choice. Dressed in poodle skirts and leather jackets, on October 31st many people look like they have flashed back to 1950’s, heading to a sock hop. We all know what the attire for these dances was, but how many of us know the history behind them?
Before you learn anything else, it is important to understand the origin of the name “sock hop.” In the 1950’s, school dances were held in school gyms. Because the floors were varnished wood and easily scuffed by shoes, schools required the removal of shoes before dancing.
Although shoes were not worn during the actual dance, saddle shoes were the popular shoes to wear to the dances. Poodle skirts and blue jeans were also very popular. And to fit with the name, most wore ankle socks as they danced.

When planning or attending a summer sock hop, it’s the small details that make all the difference. Attire should be consistent with the styles of the time in which those dances were held, as should the dance moves. Figuring out an appropriate outfit is fairly easy, but figuring out the dance moves can be a little tricky.
Many dances were made popular during the 1950’s, when sock hops were in their prime. There was the hand jive, the jitterbug, the cha cha, and the bop. While any of those dances would be great to learn for a sock hop, knowing a basic slow dance and fast dance will get you along just fine.
For the fast dance, men, you step in place with your left foot, keeping your heel up, and then you step again, but this time keeping your heel down. You will do the same with your right foot, after which you will take a step back with your left foot. Then, you simply return to starting position.

Today, anyone can start a blog. It doesn’t matter what your skill level, age, or place of residence. With blogging tools becoming more and more simplified, blogging is now accessible to everyone.
The most important thing to consider in starting a blog is your topic. As we go through this tutorial, we will focus on how you can create a blog about summer car shows or car hops. However, the instructions can be applied to all types of blogs.
Step 1: Assuming you have already decided on the topic of your blog (which we have), the next step is to choose a blogging platform, or the site that will host your blog. The two most popular platforms are Blogger and Wordpress. Either platform would be great for starting a summer car show blog, so choose the one that is easy for you to use and that you feel fits best with what you will use it for.

Simply put, a sock hop is a dance. First becoming popular in the 1950’s, these dances were usually held for teenagers. They typically took place in high school gyms and cafeterias.
This is a picture from a recent sock hop party that shows how to entertain younger children.
In fact, their location is what earned them their name. In order to protect the varnished gymnasium floor, dancers were required to remove their shoes at the beginning of the dance. This left them in their socks and stockings, which helped them in doing dances such as the Twist, the Mashed Potato, and many more.
Due to their popularity, most dances were sock hops. However, hops were different from other dances in that they were informal. They were very common and didn’t require teens to get too dressed up.

One of America’s funnest times to look back on was the 50’s. As we reminisce and look back it is fun to do this with a sock hop. If you are invited to one of these or are considering attending one there are lots of fun costumes to choose from that can help you rock the night away.
A classic for young ladies is the poodle skirt. These were longer skirts that were typically adorned by a poodle on the bottom side. Bobby socks and saddle shoes can adorn one’s feet while a classic ponytail with a matching ribbon adds accent to the hair.
If you are looking for a bit more rebellious side to show at your sock hop, try the “greaser” look. You do this by wearing a tight pencil skirt along with a button down blouse with the top two buttons left undone. Make sure that bright red lipstick is worn and that hair is very poufy and tall. A pink lady jacket is also a nice touch.

When you are hosting a sock hop at a summer car show there are a few things to consider. Planning is very important. Preparation makes things run a little smoother. Here are a few do’s and don’ts of sock hops at car shows.
Do get a good sound system. You want the music to be heard by the audience. Don’t crank the volume too high so people can’t hear each other speak.
Do have the sock hop outside. Having open air will bring in a lot of customers and is perfect for the summer time. Don’t forget to put tents up, however, so people can have a break in the shade during the hotter parts of the day.
Do have a good location in mind. Locations with a lot of shade or in a building with air conditioning is a must. Don’t ever have a show in a build
ing that has to air conditioning. This is a recipe for disaster.
Do invite people to the car show. Use a 50s theme invitation that showcases the sock hop fun that the show will have. Don’t send a cheesy invitation, however. Find good ones that include the 50s theme with antique cars.

Car shows during the summer months is the way to go. Not only will you have good weather, but you will be able to draw in a bigger crowd. Summers are the perfect time to host a car show.
When you have a car show, however, it is important to do more than just bring in cars. You should have a theme and general idea of how you want the show to run. For example, what type of cars are you wanting to show off?
Antique car shows are perfect for bringing in a 1950s theme. Have your employees wear sock hop costumes and bring in decorations that work with the 1950s theme. Sock hop costumes include poodle skirts, jeans, and ponytails. Sock hop costumes can even include roller skates if you want to incorporate a car hop theme to the show.
Try to incorporate the different cars in the show. Ask the manufacturers if they have any material they would like to give away. Some car manufacturers would love to give away pens, Frisbees, or magnets.

There are many fun things to see and do at a car show. One fun activity is to participate in a car hop. While it is important that the cars that are being shown are the main priority, a little fun helps things to go a long way.
In order to have a successful car hop you’ll need to do some basic planning first. Once this planning is done and assignments made things won’t seem so overwhelming. The following are some things that ideas to help your activities be a smashing hit.
Publicity is key. Make sure that your event is well know by those who will be attending the event. When people know in advance they are more likely to make sure to set aside time to attend.
